Add or remove a business name partner
If your business name adds or removes a partner, you need to let us know.
You can only add or remove a partner from a partnership if it's possible under your partnership agreement.
After you've updated your partner details, you also need to submit another transaction to change the holder name and show the new partner details. This does not happen automatically.

When you can't add or remove a partner
In some cases, you can't add or remove a partner.
This includes:
- adding partners to a business name held by an individual business name holder
- removing partners so that only one partner remains (making it an individual holder), or
- if the business name is held by a joint venture partnership.
These changes affect the structure of the business entirely and you must transfer the business name to the new entity.
How to add a partner
You can add a partner online using ASIC Connect.
Step 1 - Sign up and log in to ASIC Connect
You need to link your business name to your account before you can add a partner. See Business names for more information.
Step 2 - Select your business name in the 'Lodgements and notifications' tab
Step 3 - Select 'Change partner details' from the transactions list and press 'Go'
Step 4 - Select 'Add a partner', enter all their details, and submit the transaction
How to remove a partner
You can remove a partner online using ASIC Connect.
Step 1 - Sign up and log in to ASIC Connect
You need to link your business name to your account before you can remove a partner. See Business names for more information.
Step 2 - Select your business name in the 'Lodgements and notifications' tab
Step 3 - Select 'Change partner details' from the transactions list and press 'Go'
Step 4 - Select 'Remove a partner', enter the date of removal, and submit the transaction
Updating your partnership name
After you've updated your partner details, you also need to update your business name holder name to reflect the new partners.
