How to appoint authorised representatives

You will need to use ASIC Connect to appoint authorised representatives. 

You can notify up to 25 appointments per transaction.

Get started

To get started, visit the ASIC website at www.asic.gov.au.

  • Click on the blue ASIC Connect box. This will take you to ASIC Connect.

Log in

Go to ASIC Connect and select 'Log in'. 

  • If you do not have an ASIC Connect account, select 'Sign up'.

Log in using your email address and password. 

  • If you do not have an ASIC Connect account, select 'Sign up'.

Home

Once you have logged in, the home screen will be visible. 

  • Select 'Lodgements & Notifications'to appoint an authorised representative. 

Appoint authorised representatives

Select the radio button next to the AFS licensee or AFS representative you want to appoint authorised representatives to. 

  • In the transactions column, select Appoint Representatives. This is the name of the transaction you use to appoint an authorised representative. 
  • Select 'Go' to proceed. 

Where a licensee consents in writing, an authorised representative may appoint an individual as a representative on behalf of a licensee. 

Where this occurs, and the licensee if notifying of the appoint of a representative to the Financial Advisers Register or the Authorised Representatives Register, the representative number of the authoriser must be provided. 

  • You can use the link provided to search the Authorised Representatives Register for the representative number of the authorised representative. 
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Select that the representative is being appointed as an authorised representative.  

  • Enter the date of appointment. The appointment date must be a date on or after the AFS licence was granted by ASIC, or if appointed by an authorised representative, on or after the date the authorised representative was appointed by the licensee. 
  • Select whether ASIC has issued this representative with a representative number. 
  • Select whether the representative has an ABN.
  • Select whether the representative is a natural person.  
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Enter the name of the representative. If you have provided a representative number this information will be pre-populated. 

  • Enter the birth details of the representative. 
  • Select 'Search Name'. 
  • If the representative appears in the search results you can select them. Otherwise select none of the above. 
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Select '+Add' to provide principal place of business/practice details. 

  • Select '+Add' to provide an email address. 
  • Select '+Add' to provide the registered business name that the authorised representative trades under (optional). 
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Authorisations

Select whether the representative can appoint further authorised representatives or financial advisers on behalf of the AFS licensee. 

  • Select whether the authorised representative has the same authorisations as the AFS licensee. 
    • If the authorised representative does not have the same authorisations as the AFS licensee, select the financial services they are authorised to provide. 
    • If applicable, provide details of further restrictions to the services and products that this authorised representative is authorised to provide. 
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Cross endorsements

Select whether the authorised representative is also an authorised representative of one or more other AFS licensees. 

  • If the authorised representative is authorised by one or more other AFS licensees, select '+Add' and enter the cross endorsement details. 
  • Enter the license number of the other AFS licensee. 
  • Select whether the other AFS licensee has consented to this representative being appointed as a representative of the AFS licensee. 
  • Select 'Save' to save the cross endorsement details
  • Select 'Next' to continue.

Review

Check that the information you have entered is correct. 

  • Select '+Add a representative' to add more authorised representatives. You can notify up to 25 appointments per transaction. 
  • Select 'Edit/Review' if the information has been entered incorrectly for an authorised representative. 
  • Select 'Remove' to remove an authorised representative. 
  • When all authorised representatives have been added correctly, select 'Next' to continue. 

Declarations

Read the declaration to ensure you agree with the conditions of the transaction. 

  • If you agree, tick the boxes next to the declaration to proceed. 
  • Select your authority for submitting the transaction. 
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Payment

You can choose to pay using a credit card, or BPAY. Alternatively, you can request an invoice to be sent to you. 

  • Select the 'Pay Now' option. 
  • Select 'Pay Now' to continue. 

Enter your credit card details. 

  • Select 'Submit' to process the payment. 

If you want to pay at a later date, you can do so by using BPAY or requesting an invoice to be sent to you. 

  • Select the 'Pay Later' option. 
  • Select the 'Invoice' or 'BPAY' option. If you select 'Invoice' it will be sent to: 
    • AFS licensee: the email address if one has been provided. Otherwise it will be sent to the service address. 
    • AFS representative: the email address if one has been provided. Otherwise it will be sent to the principal place of business. 
  • If you select 'BPAY' you will need to print or make note of the BPAY details and process your payment. 
  • Select 'Pay Later'. 

Confirmation

This screen confirms your transaction has been submitted. 

  • Select 'Print the transaction' to download a printable PDF version of the transaction. 
  • Select one of the links under What else can I do for more information about other services. 
  • Select 'Home' to return to the ASIC Connect home page. 

What is an ASIC key?

What is an industry funding security key?

Your industry funding security key is a unique number used to launch an online transaction in the ASIC Regulatory Portal that will enable us to calculate your final industry funding invoice. You will be prompted to submit business activity metric information on the operation of your business in the previous financial year.
