Published

Mr Tony D’Aloisio, Chairman of ASIC, today welcomed the Treasurer’s announcement of the proposed appointment of Ms Belinda Gibson as an ASIC Commissioner from 5 November 2007.

‘Ms Gibson is a very experienced and highly-regarded lawyer in mergers and acquisitions and in corporate and securities law and these skills will enable her to make an important contribution to the Commission’s priorities, particularly in capital markets. Her managerial experience when combined with her extensive legal skills will, in addition, enable Ms Gibson to bring considerable practical and commercial expertise to the Commission’, Mr D’Aloisio said.

Mr D’Aloisio also thanked ASIC Commissioner, Mr Jeffrey Lucy AM, for his outstanding contribution to ASIC over the past four-and-a-half years. Mr Lucy commenced with ASIC in 2003 as Deputy Chairman, became ASIC Chairman in 2004 and was appointed Commissioner in 2007. He will resign from ASIC on 10 December 2007.

‘During his time as Chairman, Jeffrey introduced some significant initiatives in regulation, compliance and enforcement, promoting higher standards of corporate and business disclosure and conduct in Australia.

‘I am pleased that Jeffrey will continue to make an excellent contribution to corporate Australia, and to the accounting and auditing profession in particular, in his role as Chairman of the Financial Reporting Council. His commitment to public service has been exemplary’, Mr D’Aloisio said.
