08-203 ASIC announces senior appointment in Western Australia

Published

ASIC today announced the appointment of Mr Bruce Dodd as its Regional Commissioner in Western Australia and the head of its Perth-based Emerging Mining and Resources team.

Mr Dodd was a former Senior Partner and Partner in Charge in the Perth office of Mallesons Stephen Jaques. Mr Dodd specialised in commercial dispute resolution with a particular emphasis on insurance, insolvency and bank litigation. He has extensive experience in the financial and business markets in Western Australia.

ASIC Chairman, Mr Tony D’Aloisio said Mr Dodd, as Regional Commissioner, will be responsible for the delivery of efficient and cost effective services to local stakeholders and ensuring local issues are identified and receive the required resources.

‘One of the changes resulting from ASIC’s strategic review was to strike a better balance between national and regional initiatives through additional resources in capital cities such as Perth. The appointment of a senior executive with Bruce Dodd’s experience will give Western Australia a higher profile within ASIC,’ he said.

He will also be responsible for stakeholder liaison.

Under ASIC’s new structure, the prominence of Regional Commissioners has been raised and they now report directly to the ASIC Chairman and Commissioners, giving them the ability to raise local issues at the highest levels of ASIC.

The new structure also created 12 stakeholder teams to oversee the financial economy. As Senior Executive Leader of ASIC’s Emerging Mining and Resources stakeholder team, Mr Dodd is ideally equipped to lead ASIC’s work in this important market area, which is particularly relevant to Western Australia.

It is anticipated Mr Dodd will take up his role on 1 October 2008.
