This week ASIC is encouraging Australians to do a Money Health Check as part of MoneySmart Week 2 – 8 September. MoneySmart Week is a national initiative of government, corporate and community organisations.

ASIC Commissioner, Peter Kell said, ‘Many people want to reach financial goals or would like money matters to be less stressful, but they aren’t always sure how to achieve this. As a key supporter of MoneySmart Week, ASIC is encouraging Australians to do a Money Health Check.’

The Money Health Check is a free online tool, available via MoneySmartWeek.org.au and as an app for smartphones. It asks simple questions about how you are managing your money including your goals, debts, savings, superannuation and insurance. The results show how well each area of your finances is under control and gives tips about how you can improve the situation.

‘ASIC is about confident and informed investors, so keeping a pulse on each aspect of your finances gives you the ability to plan and make the most of opportunities. If people can tick off the 5 action items they are given at the end of the health check, then this can make a big difference’ said Mr Kell.

During MoneySmart Week on the 2 – 8 September, there will be more than 100 events taking place in workplaces and communities around Australia to assist people complete a money health check and take part in financial literacy programs. Visit www.moneysmartweek.org.au to find an event near you.

Mr Kell said, ‘As an employer, we will be encouraging all ASIC employees to do a money health check this week, and we hope other employers will do the same. Apart from the direct benefit for staff and their families, we know employees are happier and more productive if they feel under control financially.

‘ASIC encourages everyone to share the Money Health Check with their friends, colleagues and family to ensure everyone can benefit from this free and unbiased tool – to put their finances in good stead for the future.’
