Australian businesses are invited to learn more about the new national business names registration service at a series of information sessions hosted by ASIC around Australia (17 April–16 May 2012).
Led by ASIC senior executives, Kathrine Morgan-Wicks and Rosanne Bell, the sessions will help business name holders and industry professionals better understand ASIC’s national business names register and hear first-hand how the transition from state and territory agencies will take place.
Commencing on 28 May 2012 (subject to the passage of legislation through State parliaments) the new register will enable 1.8 million current business name holders to register their name nationally through a simple and easy to use online service. Businesses will only need to register their name once, and will no longer be required to register separately in each state and territory they operate in. Existing business names currently registered in a state or territory will be automatically transferred to the new register.
‘Efficient registration and licensing is a key priority for ASIC, so we’re keen to build awareness about our new service which will not only cut red tape, but also reduce costs for Australian businesses’, said ASIC’s Deputy Chief of Operations, Ms Morgan-Wicks.
‘Our presentations in each capital city will provide industry with an opportunity to hear how they can best prepare for the new national register and have their questions answered.’
Ms Morgan-Wicks said the sessions will also provide attendees with a preview of ASIC’s new online service, ASIC Connect.
‘Essentially, we’re aiming to ensure ASIC’s registry services are more accessible and well equipped to meet the growing needs of our customers. Our new business names register will provide an easier, quicker and cheaper service for 1.8 million existing business name holders and over 200,000 new business name holders annually. It’s just one of a number of initiatives we hope to introduce this year to provide a seamless and efficient online registry service.’
