ASIC awareness campaign comes to Bendigo

Published

ASIC’s Victorian Regional Commissioner, Mr Warren Day, is in Bendigo this week to support ASIC’s MoneySmart stand at the Elmore Field Days and promote the resources available to help regional Victorians better manage their finances.

ASIC is attending the Field Days to promote the consumer website, MoneySmart (www.moneysmart.gov.au), which offers free, independent guidance so Australians can make the most of their money.

‘ASIC wants to make itself more accessible to everyday consumers and investors and make money matters more front of mind. We also want to hear from people about what issues are important to them and what tools or resources will help them better manage their money’, Mr Day said.

MoneySmart helps Australians take simple steps to get quick answers about their money. The website offers interactive tools and information to understand basics such as budgeting, saving, credit cards and loans, with further information on more complex issues such as superannuation contributions, margin loans and income tax.

The Money Health Check, a free online tool available via Moneysmart.gov.au and as an app for smartphones, provides simple questions about managing money, including goals, debts, savings, superannuation and insurance. The results show how well each financial area is under control and provides guidance on improvement.

Mr Day and his team will also provide advice on how to protect consumers from investment scams and other frauds.

‘In listening to the views, concerns and experiences of regional Victorians, we hope to build new relationships, strengthen existing ones and ultimately increase confidence in managing their own finances’, Mr Day said.

ASIC invites members of the Bendigo and wider communities to visit Stand AP47 over the three days of the Elmore Field Days, beginning Tuesday 2 October 2018.

Mr Day will also be available for media interviews while he is in Bendigo. Please contact the ASIC Media Unit on 1300 208 215 or email media.unit@asic.gov.auto arrange an interview.
