Former Cairns director convicted of making false statement to ASIC

Published

Andrew Ross Eddy of Cairns, Queensland, has been convicted of making a false or misleading statement to ASIC and ordered to pay a fine of $1,500 plus court costs.

Mr Eddy was a director of East Coast Construction Services Pty Ltd (ACN 126 575 826), which operated in the building and construction industry.

On 23 June 2020, Mr Eddy lodged a document with ASIC to voluntarily deregister East Coast and in doing so, declared that it was not a party to any legal proceedings. As at 23 June 2020, East Coast was a party to legal proceedings in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Mr Eddy pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 8 March 2022.

The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions prosecuted the matter following a referral from ASIC.

Mr Eddy is automatically disqualified from managing corporations for five years (until 7 March 2027) by virtue of his conviction.
