I will approach this session's topic "Working in a Regulated Environment" by providing some insights into the scope for ASIC to influence behaviour in the marketplace within the current regulatory framework.
How does ASIC approach its task as a regulator of the markets? I will do this with reference to two particular objectives for ASIC this year:

improving protection for the retail investor; and
-
assuming responsibility for market supervision later this year.
