Change a business name registration period

You can apply to change your business name registration period in some circumstances.

Before you start

You can apply to change your business name registration period if you want to align more than one registration. We call this an ‘alternative registration period’. You can make this request for 2 reasons:

  • you hold one or more business names on the register and they have the same ABN, or
  • your registered company is the business name holder and you want your business name renewal to have the same due date as your company’s annual review.

The new registration period for your business name must end no later than 6 months after your current registration period ends. For example, if your current registration expires on 31 March 2027, the new registration expiry date cannot be any later than 30 September 2027.

If you request a registration period shorter than the standard 1 year or 3 years that you already have, you will not get a refund for any time not used in your current registration period.
