Hide personal details on the business name register
Key points:
- You can apply to hide some details on the business names register so they are not public.
- We will only do this if there is a risk to someone’s personal safety or in other exceptional circumstances.
- You will need to provide evidence.
- We call this ‘suppression’ of business name details.
- If the matter is urgent call us on 1300 300 630.
If you are worried that you will be unsafe if your details are published online, contact us before you register your business name.
If your details are already on the business name register, you can apply to hide (suppress) some of them. Follow the steps on this page.
When we can hide (suppress) details
We can hide (suppress) details if making the information public would be a serious risk to your safety, or the safety of someone linked to you or your business.
Evidence needed
You should provide evidence to support your request, such as a:
- letter from the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) that you have 'silent elector' status
- court order
- police report.
Details we can hide
We can suppress details such as:
Details we cannot hide
Legally, there is some information that we cannot suppress for any reason. This includes:
- the business name
- registration date
- registration status of the business name
- the current service of documents address.
If you are worried about your home address being published online, do not use it as your service of documents address. You could use a PO Box, or your accountant’s address instead, for example.
