Change a business name address
If any of your business addresses change, you must update them on the business names register within 28 days. This includes your business email address. We use your business addresses to send you important notifications about your business, such as when it is upcoming for renewal.
Before you start
Addresses you must keep up to date
ASIC asks for 3 different addresses. If any of them change, you must update them within 28 days.
If you’re worried about your safety, you can ask us to hide your address from the public.
Email address
We generally send official notices and letters to this address. These include your business names record of registration, renewal notices and invoices.
People will not be able to see your email address on the business name register.
Service of documents address
This must be a physical street address or post office box (PO Box) in Australia. We may send some official notices and letters to this address. It may also be used by other people or organisations to send mail or serve documents. People will be able to see this address online on the business names register.
Principal place of business address
This is the main place you carry out business. It must be a physical street address in Australia and cannot be a PO Box.
People will be able to see this address on the business names register. However, if your place of business is your home address and you operate as an individual, we will only show your suburb, state or territory and postcode.
To use ASIC Connect
You will need to sign up for an ASIC Connect account and have your business name linked if you haven’t already. Find out how to do this:
Steps to change your address details
Log in to your account
- Log in to ASIC Connect
- Enter your username and password.
Start transaction
- Select the ‘Lodgements and notifications’ tab.
- Select the business name you want to change.
- Select ‘change business address’
- Select the 'Go' button.
- Select ‘edit’ next to the address you want to update.
Make the changes
- Select the ‘Clear address’ button if you want to delete all the current details for this address.
- Enter the new address.
- Select the 'Save address' button.
- Select the 'Next’ button.
Review and confirm
Check your details are correct. If you need to change something, press the ‘Cancel’ button.
Declare and submit
- Read the declaration to make sure you agree with it. You will also need to tell us that you are authorised. If you agree and are authorised, tick the boxes by selecting them.
- Select the ‘Submit’ button to submit the form.
- You’ll get a message that confirms your request has been submitted.
- Select ‘Document acknowledgement’ if you want to download a PDF version of the documents. You can print or save the PDF for your records.
