Change business name holder details
You must tell us when the details of a business name holder change. This includes individuals' and partners' names and addresses.
Before you start
You must tell us about any changes to the name and address of a business name holder within 28 days. This includes changes to:
- an individual’s name
- an individual’s residential address
- an individual’s email address (if provided)
- a partner’s name.
For some other changes of details, you need to follow a different process.
- If you are the new owner of a business name that was owned by someone else, you must get a transfer number from the previous business name owner. You will need it to register the business.
- If your business partnership changes, you must add or remove a partner before updating the partnership name using the steps below.
To use ASIC Connect
You will need to sign up for an ASIC Connect account and have your business name linked if you haven’t already. Find out how to do this:
Steps to update someone’s details
Log in to your account
Log in to ASIC Connect using your username and password.
Start transaction
- Select the ‘Lodgements and notifications’ tab.
- Select the business you want to change.
- Select ‘Change holder details’.
- Select ‘Go’.
Make the changes
Select ‘Update name’ or ‘Change address’ and enter the new details.
Review and confirm
Check the details displayed are correct. If they are not correct, you can select ‘Back’ to make any changes.
Declare and submit
- Read the declaration to make sure you agree with it. If you do, select the ‘Yes’ button.
- Select the ‘Submit’ button to submit the form.
- You’ll get a message that confirms your request has been submitted.
- Select ‘Document acknowledgement’ if you want to download a PDF version of the documents. You can print or save the PDF for your records.
