How to add or remove a business name partner

ASIC Connect is the online system used to manage your business name.

You can add or remove a business name partner using ASIC Connect.

Further assistance about using ASIC Connect can be accessed via the button at the top right-hand side of the screen

Get started

To get started, visit the ASIC website at www.asic.gov.au.

  • Click on the blue ASIC Connect box. This will take you to ASIC Connect.

Go to ASIC Connect and select 'Log in'. 

  • If you do not have an ASIC Connect account select 'Sign up'.

Log in 

Log in using your email address and password.

If you haven't already done so, you will need to link your business name to your account. For assistance with linking see our How to link a business name to your ASIC Connect account user guide. 

  • If you do not have an ASIC Connect account select 'Sign up'.

Add or remove a business name partner

Select the 'Lodgements & Notifications' tab at the top of the screen.

  • Select the business name you wish to add or remove the partner from.
  • In the transactions column, select 'Change partner details'.
  • Select 'Go' to continue.

The business name partners and their details will be displayed.

Add a partner

  • Select 'Add a Partner'.

Eligibility

Read the eligibility requirements of a business name partner.

  • Tick the boxes next to the requirements.
  • Select 'Next' to continue.

New partner details

Select whether the new partner is an individual, company or registered body, or an organization.

  • Select 'Next' to continue.

The option you have selected will display below the New partner details section.

Individual

Enter an effective date for the change (DD/MM/YYYY).

  • Enter the new partner’s given and family name (and other names if applicable).
  • If the address has previously been notified to ASIC, it may appear in the known addresses drop-down box. If so, you can select it.
  • If the new address is not already linked to your account, enter the new address into the corresponding fields.
  • You can choose to select an email address that is already linked to the account, or enter a new one.
  • Select:
    • 'Cancel' to start again, or
    • 'Save & Exit' to save the details entered and complete and submit the transaction later.
  • Select 'Next' to continue.

Company or registered body 

Enter an effective date for the change (DD/MM/YYYY).

  • Enter the ACN or ARBN for the company or registered body.
  • You can choose to select an email address that is already linked to the account, or enter a new one. 
  • Select:
    • 'Cancel' to start again, or
    • 'Save & Exit' to save the details entered and complete and submit the transaction later.
  • Select 'Next' to continue.

Organisation

Enter an effective date for the change (DD/MM/YYYY).

  • Enter the name of the organisation.
  • Select:
    • 'Cancel' to start again, or
    • 'Save & Exit' to save the details entered and complete and submit the transaction later.
  • Select 'Next' to continue.

Review

Check the partner details are displayed correctly. If not, select 'Edit' to go back to re-enter.

  • Select 'Submit' to continue.

Declare

Read the declaration to ensure you agree with the conditions of the transaction.

  • If you agree, tick the boxes next to the declaration to proceed.
  • Select your authority for lodging the application.
  • Select 'Next' to continue.

Confirmation

This screen confirms your transaction has been submitted. 

  • Select 'Print the transaction' to download a printable PDF version of the transaction.
  • Select one of the links under What else can I do for more information about other services or
  • Select 'Home' to return to the ASIC Connect home page. 

Remove a partner

The business name partners and their details will be displayed.

  • Click on the 'Remove partner' link next to the partner to be removed.

Effective date

Enter an effective date for the change (DD/MM/YYYY). Complete other details as required.

  • Select 'Next' to continue.

Review 

Check that the details are correct. If not, select 'Edit' to go back to re-enter the correct information.

  • Select 'Submit' to continue.

Declare

Read the declaration to ensure you agree with the conditions of the transaction.

  • If you agree, tick the boxes next to the declaration to proceed.
  • Select your authority for submitting the transaction.
  • Select 'Next' to continue.

Confirmation

This screen confirms your transaction has been submitted. 

  • Select 'Print the transaction' to download a printable PDF version of the transaction.
  • Select one of the links under What else can I do for more information about other services or
  • Select 'Home' to return to the ASIC Connect home page. 

What is an ASIC key?

Your ASIC key is a unique number used in ASIC Connect that helps us establish your identity and protects your business information by making sure only you and those you have authorised can access it.

A corporate key is an 8-digit number uniquely associated with a company’s ACN. Your company needs only one corporate key.

An invitation key is a unique key to register for, or connect to an entity in, the ASIC Regulatory Portal.

What is an industry funding security key?

Your industry funding security key is a unique number used to launch an online transaction in the ASIC Regulatory Portal that will enable us to calculate your final industry funding invoice. You will be prompted to submit business activity metric information on the operation of your business in the previous financial year.
