CP 42 Draft section 1013DA guidelines: Disclosure about labour standards and environmental, social and ethical considerations in product disclosure statements

Released 3 September 2003. Comments closed 15 October 2003.

These draft guidelines help product issuers meet their product disclosure statement (PDS) obligations to disclose how labour standards or environmental, social or ethical issues are considered in selecting, retaining or realising an investment. They are designed to:

  • provide consumers with better disclosure to:
    • enhance their ability to compare products; and
    • select the product that best matches any goals they may have regarding the consideration of these matters in the making of investment decisions for the product;
  • provide industry with greater certainty about how it can meet the new disclosure requirements without inhibiting developments in this area or product design and without being commercially
  • unrealistic or exposing product issuers to unreasonable levels of risk; and
  • ensure that products are 'true to label' and do what they say they do.
