ASIC publishes several statistical series to inform the market as to both the level of activity and profile of corporate insolvency in Australia. These statistics are collected from forms and reports lodged with ASIC against our corporate and professional registers.
Warning: ASIC does not update the published statistics for Series 1, 2 or 5 after they cease to be preliminary and shading is removed. Accordingly, our published statistics are not updated for any changes to the corporate register resulting from subsequent form lodgements or withdrawals.

Series 1 and 2: Insolvency statistics
ASIC releases weekly (two weeks in arrears) the following insolvency statistics to report on the level of company insolvency in Australia:
Series 1: The first time a company enters external administration or has a controller appointed, and
Series 2: All appointments over a company including the first, subsequent and transitional appointments.
You can download an Excel workbook that includes a data set providing the details of all external administration and controller appointments included in Series 1 and Series 2.
External administrators' reports for selected industries: selected tables for the five industries with the highest number of external administrators' reports lodged are provided by region for the current financial year.
External administrators' reports time series: a comparison of the totals for selected tables are provided as a time series by financial year, from 1 July 2004 to current.
Series 4: Quarterly registered liquidator statistics
These quarterly statistics reporting the total number of registered liquidators together with the number of new and ceased registered liquidators (by region).
We will update these lists monthly to reflect changes that occur to the Register of Liquidators. You should search the liquidator register on the ASIC Professional Registers Searchbefore acting on the information in these lists.
Series 5: Members’ voluntary liquidation statistics
ASIC releases quarterly (one month in arrears) the following statistics to report on the level of winding up of solvent companies in Australia.
