How to apply to ASIC to reserve a company name for an existing company

This is an optional transaction and should be completed when you want to reserve a company name for an already exisiting. 

You will need to log in to your online account before you begin. 

Start transaction

Once logged in, select 'Select new form' in the left hand menu. 

From the list of available forms, select '410B'. 

Enter the company ACN/ABN

Enter the 'ACN/ABN' of the company who would like to reserve a name. 

  • Please carefully read the information that relates to lodging this form. 
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Confirm company details

Review the company details. 

  • Select 'Yes' to confirm the information is correct. 
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Select 'Yes' or 'No' to confirm if the proposed name is identical to a registered business name. 

Note: if you select 'Yes' to this question, you will need to enter this information later in the application. 

  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Enter reservation details

Enter the 'Proposed name' of the company to be reserved. 

  • From the drop-down list, select the 'Legal elements' you wish to apply to the company name. 
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Review the proposed new company name. 

  • Select 'Yes' to confirm this information is correct. 
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Note:
If you selected 'Yes' to 'Is the proposed name identical to a registered business name?', go to Add a business name (page 10). 
If you selected 'No' to 'Is the proposed name identical to a registered business name?', go to Request for manual review (page 13). 

Add a business name

  • Enter the relevant 'ABN' or 
  • Enter the 'State/territory business number' and the 'State/territory'. 
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Review the business name details. From here you can: 

  • Remove the listed business name
  • Review further details of the business name
  • Add another business name or
  • If no futher changes are required, select 'Next' to continue. 

Select 'Yes' to confirm ownership of the relevant business name. 

  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Request for manual review

Select 'Yes' or 'No' to confirm if manual review of your proposed change of company name is required. 

  • Select 'More information' for help to determine your answer to this question. 
  • If a manual review is required, provide 'Supporting reasons' in the box provided. 
  • Select 'Next' to continue. 

Declaration

Select a 'Payment option' from the drop-down list. You can only select direct debit if you are registered for direct debit with ASIC. 

Select the Authorising officeholder from the drop-down list. 

  • Select 'Yes' to complete the declaration when you are satisfied the document is being lodged within the terms and conditions of ASIC's Electronic Lodgement Protocol. 
  • Select 'Submit' to lodge the form with ASIC. 

Confirmation

This screen confirms your document was submitted to ASIC. 

  • Select 'Next' to continue.

Note: Occasionally, the system may present an additional form submission screen at this point. If this is the case, continue to select 'Next' to finalise this transaction.

Fees advice

Note the invoice amount is now displayed.

  • Select 'Print' to print your invoice.
  • Select 'Next' to continue and finalise the transaction.

What is an industry funding security key?

You will be prompted to submit business activity metric information on the operation of your business in the previous financial year.
