Applying for and managing your credit licence
You can lodge an application for a credit licence online.
You can apply for an Australian credit licence by using the online application. If ASIC already holds details about you in its registers (for example because you are a company or you hold an Australian financial services licence) the application will be pre-filled with some of your information from those other registers. This information cannot be changed, so before you apply for a credit licence you should check to make sure your details in those other registers are current and update them if necessary.
In assessing your application, we will consider whether you:
- can comply with the general conduct obligations, which aim to ensure that you operate your credit business properly
- are a fit and proper person to engage in credit activities (if you are a body corporate, a partnership or a 'multiple trustee', we will consider whether certain people who are responsible managing your credit business - directors, company secretaries and senior managers of bodies corporate, each partner and each trustee who will perform duties for credit activities under the licence – are fit and proper people to perform that role).
The information in your application must be correct and complete. If your application does not meet our requirements it could be returned or refused, or there could be substantial delays while we seek further information from you.
We aim to decide whether to grant a credit licence within 150 days; however, this will take longer if the application raises complex or new policy issues, or if you don't give us all the information we need.
